More Dance of Death pictures 1

I said that I would put up some more of the wonderful 'Dance of Death' pictures which Cro drew for her father, 45 years ago, then for me about 15 years ago, then for her daughter during the pandemic. I have had people contact me since saying 'I would love one a Dance of Death for myself' so there is definitely an opening in the market. I have a few younger relatives who are very graphically inclined and talented and will take this up with them, but if anyone else wants to throw their hat into the ring, by all means....

So the top picture here is of course celebrating all the 'off piste' journeys that Cro and I made to China, along with the ubiquitous rabbit ears that pop up in Chinese group photos. I am sure I have a couple of pictures of us being rabbit-eared by our subjects in chinese photos. In fact, I just looked and found a lovely one, from back in Shanxi province 15 years ago:

The next one of mine celebrates my love of music, though I think you will see that Cro seems to have give me a clarinet rather than a flute. I like the way that the second part of the couplet comes at the bottom after the enjoyment part comes at the top. But the enjoyment is always there.

Also, note that I think Cro has deliberately given Death a Bodhran. This is an in-joke which my family at least will understand. I think the horrified fiddle player at the back is my sister too.

And here is one celebrating my hearty love of squash:

There is a very good upper body twist on Death's shot there. Cro had clearly watched people playing squash a lot, maybe when I was teaching her youngest the game that he eventually thrashed me at without mercy. Sic Transit Gloria Mundi.

And this is my favourite from this little selection (there are four more in my sequence, which I will discover and also post, plus I will put up the ones that Cro did for her father, Far). This is me hurtling down a hill, which may in fact be the most likely way to the Next World for me, given that we have very steep and long hills round here (but such fun!)

Although I am happy for anyone to look at the pictures, I'd ask that you don't send them to people (though you can send the link to the blog). I will put a copyright note here so that anyone coming to the blog sees it.

  2. Sic Transit Gloria Mundi. Reading this, I automatically hear my Dad's voice (aka Uncle Tommy in this blog) saying "there goes glorious Monday!" Manglement of expressions, is that a family language thing too?
