Consultant day No 3 (Aug 21st 2024)

Yesterday was my first meeting with a consultant since chemo began, so first chance to see how it's going and what's going to happen. Here's what:

Teeth: I had two molars extracted in the morning and a 'live' insert of two implant pins so that we can start the bone-strengthening meds soon, in about 2 weeks

Chemo: my body is responding well to the first 3 weeks. Parapoteins down 50 per cent, which is good

Stem cell transplant: Consultant has booked me in to go straight to SCT at end of the 4 months so likely I'll be 'flushed' (see elsewhere) by early December and hairless and white-blood-cell-free by Christmas. And a happy new year to us all

And the compulsory bad news: on the basis of the Irish saying:"From the day you're born till you're in your hearse, there's nothing so bad that it can't get worse", they gave me my genetic analysis and I'm not in the big 'no extra risk' majority group. I'm in the 15-20% of sufferers who are ,'higher risk', where our mutants have got smarter and more devious. So remission 'could' be shorter. But we'll see.

Next update will be in about a month. For now it's back to being Mr Cheeseman with the entertaining steroid habit, signing off at 3:56 in the morning.

  1. Not surprised you have smarter mutants...but sounds as though they're going to get a good bashing.!... And tooth extractions etc aren't much fun... But wonderful to hear how quickly and thoroughly you are being treated, and with Cro channelling the mysterious C.Page...watch this space!

  2. Yes, I feel Cro is doing a gentle bit of haunting; she has my back and as I said, she would have shed blood for me, and not just her own. :)
